The opening is built around a rich, lush fruitiness. Sweet, juicy blackberry feels as though it has been freshly pressed and poured straight into the bottle, vivid and immediately attention-grabbing. Spices step in to counterbalance part of the blackberry’s sweetness, preventing the fragrance from drifting into overtly feminine territory, and the composition then moves gradually toward an oriental woody heart and base The heart and drydown are highly complex, with an unmistakably generous use of materials that aligns perfectly with the theme of “celebration.” At the center stands red myrrh with a dense, resinous, almost medicinal character. The cool, camphoraceous facet of frankincense tempers the heaviness of the myrrh, while oud and vetiver lend a grounded, dignified woody depth. The addition of spices such as coriander keeps the composition from becoming oppressive, and patchouli reins in any excess sweetness. I wear it when I want to smell elegant with a minimal and slick style leather jacket look. For more rugged looks, I prefer Bentley for men intense, just Perfect. Trying this sample on a chilly day while staying indoors. It's pleasant enough --starts out lovely on the wrists--but unremarkable. Manly, slightly spicy, and natural, but I don't detect anything special. Will try again in warmer temps, but for now I don't get the hype. Edit: on reapplication, the berry top notes come through, and there's some added complexity, but it fades down fast. Still very pleasant, though. My favorite Amouage, despite its performance issues. For some, XXV’s lousy longevity might advocate for the 40; however, the 40 is sweeter and less fresh — almost a different fragrance altogether, with more prominent patchouli and frankincense.
