I like collecting minis of the discontinued fragrances when I can before investing in a FB. Based on the accords I though I would love this but I don’t. On me Grand Bal is a sharp white floral blend, very “perfumey” The opening is the best part where the Jasmine and Ylang have a floral peachy sweetness but it quickly morphs into a non-descript floral that smells like expensive shampoo. It’s not soapy but “perfumey”. I don’t know how else to describe it, some fragrances smell amazing but don’t have that screaming accord of I’m a perfume and some do, Grand Bal screams perfume to me. The mid and base fall flat on me: no musk or sandalwood on me. Perhaps I’m anosmic to some of the composition. For Ylang/Jasmine florals from the Privee line, I much prefer the lush and sweet New Look 1947 (which I have a 7.5ml of the original formula) will have to repurchase a Fb of that one soon. I am surprised nobody mentioned that this frangrance smells exactly like Diorissimo. A younger and modern version of it. Even their notes are the same. Diorrissimo was one of my fav fragrances for the summer but as it is an EDT, it didn’t last that long. As grand bal is an edp I think they solved this problem. When I retrieved the 7.5ml from the mail, it was about 45°F outside. I immediately opened the envelope, and it had all the appearance of a tiny bottle of chilled champagne nesting in its round packaging. When I unscrewed the cap, the scent that drifted up to me was an ethereal sweet jasmine, ylang ylang, and orange blossom, the finest floral, chilled champagne. Grand Bal is exquisite. Imagine you teased out the jasmine and ylang ylang from J'adore L'or (2023) and sweetened it slightly with soft peach. That is this perfume. L'or is my new love and since this reminds me of that fragrance, I love this one too. If you own L'or, this is somewhat redundant, but there's no denying that Grand Bal is a beauty all her own. The sad part (aside from the price) is that Grand Bal lasts at most 2 hours and then she's the softest skin scent. However, what she lacks in consistent sillage, she makes up for in longevity.
