I bought a mini of what I thought was vintage Rouge d'Hermes but in fact it was a mini of the delicate flanker. I'm comparing the current formulation of Rouge to this older flanker and while they are similar there are some differences. When the delicate flanker is first spray you get a real blast of galbanum and aldehydes. Very crisp and very icy in tone. As the perfume progressed the icy sensation stays with me. Like snowflakes made of roses oil. I get that sensation as well with the current formulation of Rouge but in the older eau delicate flanker it is much more pronounced. In fact the current formulation is the delicate one because the icy cold aldehydes are toned down. This eau delicate flanker really makes good use of the source materials. The galbanum is pitch perfect. Not to green just enough to give this perfume a lovely but stinging bite. It gives the impression of thorns on the deep red roses. These roses have been caught in an ice storm and are frozen in time. The ylang iris sandalwood and resins do there best to warm and melt the ice but it is to late.
