Decants vs. Full Bottles: Which Is Right for You?

A decant is simply a smaller amount of a fragrance transferred into a travel atomizer — usually 2ml, 5ml, or 10ml. For a hobby built on trying as much as possible, it is the most efficient tool you have.

When a decant wins

If you are testing a new house, chasing a seasonal scent, or simply cannot justify a full bottle of something you might wear twice a year, a decant lets you live with a fragrance for weeks at a fraction of the cost. It is also the smart move for expensive niche releases where blind-buying a full bottle is a real financial risk.

The cheapest full bottle is the one you actually finish. The cheapest decant is the one that stops you buying the wrong full bottle.

When a full bottle wins

Once a fragrance earns a place in your regular rotation, full bottles are almost always cheaper per millilitre and better value over time. You also get the original presentation, a verifiable batch code, and far better resale potential if you change your mind.

A simple rule

Decant to discover, bottle to commit. Use samples to narrow a shortlist, then buy full bottles only of the scents that survive a month on your skin.
